Completion date: December 2025

Built is unlocking opportunities to redefine the trader’s experience at Queen Victoria Market and contribute to the bright future of this iconic landmark in Melbourne.

With 10 million patrons visiting Queen Victoria Market each year, the national heritage-listed site will be undergoing a market infrastructure, to provide traders with better amenities and facilities.

Following a five-month ECI process, Built has delivered the early works package which included gantry installation and equipment relocation.

The main works scope includes demolishing a section of the pedestrian thoroughfare, segregating and capping services, excavation, and the installation of in-ground piling and retaining walls to establish a four-level basement. Subsequently, the project will progress to constructing a two-level above-ground structure, completing the building envelope, and installing services and finishes.

The centrally located purpose-built building will include loading docks, climate-controlled trader storage below ground, improved waste and recycling facilities, dedicated trader toilets, showers and lunchrooms, and new customer toilets, a family room and accessible toilet.

The building environment will incorporate flexible hoarding and clearly marked signage to respond to the staged works, while providing a business-as-usual ethos during the three-year construction program.
