Adelaide Railway Station Facade Conservation
Value: $9m
Client: Renewal SA
Architect: Flight Path
Completion date: March 2022
The conservation includes façade stabilisation and cleaning to the Neoclassical building which was originally built in 1928. Original building processes are required for heritage conservation, following basic concrete and reinforcement patch repair, the original renders then have to be matched perfectly using natural limes and colour mixing.
The project was conducted in stages with the first stage involving façade investigation, costing, detailed programming, and heritage/authority approvals.
The Adelaide Railway Station has strong cultural and social associations with the community and is accessed by roughly 230,000 rail commuters weekly. The site is situated in the heart of the Adelaide Riverbank Precinct, adjacent to numerous live construction projects, and is one of the CBD’s busiest destinations.
Whilst the project is primarily heritage conservation, the logistics of complex site access and managing numerous stakeholders and public access is a crucial aspect of the project.
