Built triumphs with three wins at The Urban Developer Awards
Congratulations to our teams for winning three awards at 2023 The Urban Developer Awards for Industry Excellence.
Sunshine Private Hospital received the Excellence in Construction Innovation award, ReLove Crate of Kindness at 480 Swan St, in partnership with Charter Hall, won the Excellence in Community Engagement award and InterContinental Sydney took home the Development of the Year Built to Rent, Hotels and Accommodation award.
This accomplishment is a recognition of our commitment to leading the new way forward for the industry and the communities in which we operate.
Excellence in Construction Innovation: Sunshine Private Hospital
Built used digital engineering technology to build the newly completed Sunshine Private Hospital in Victoria – Australia’s first intentionally all-electric private hospital.
Throughout the design process, the team unlocked complex problems by utilising digital engineering tools such as virtual reality, to allow healthcare user groups to review digital prototypes before construction took place.
By removing any barriers of understanding of 2D drawings, Built was able to collaborate with all parties to provide an outcome that had been tested virtually. This provided assurance to user groups on usability ahead of works commencing on site and helped achieve waste minimisation, adhere to sustainability best practices, achieve design excellence and meet the construction program.

Learning from our Sunshine Private Hospital project, Built and Australian Unity are now exploring additional ways to use digital engineering technology. Recently, presenting at Australian Healthcare week to share key learnings on digital engineering application and how it can be used across the healthcare sector.
Development of the Year Built to Rent, Hotels and Accommodation: InterContinental Sydney
The InterContinental Sydney project brings together a wealth of experience across luxury hotels, working in live environments, high-end fitouts and heritage restoration.
This saw Built revitalise one of the city’s prized icons and significantly impact on the overall user experience. The large scale project included an upgrade of the building services, refurbishment of 509 guest rooms, corridors, the ground level, reception areas, new public bars, restaurant, gym and pool..Built undertook significant planning to design a custom solution to replace all 587 windows internally, eliminating the standard high-risk method of scaffolding the building and eliminated impacting guest amenity.

Respecting the heritage while embracing new methodology, the restoration showcases Built’s ability to innovatively manage safety in a controlled live environment throughout the scope of the works.
Excellence in Community Engagement: ReLove Crate of Kindness at 480 Swan St
The ‘Crate of Kindness’ initiative, spearheaded by ReLove and executed by Built and Charter Hall, looks after the people in the community in which we operate in. Solving a gap in the market, the concept manages large scale donations to help set up women and children of domestic violence situations transition and feel comfortable in their own homes.
On behalf of charity organisations such as Women’s Property Initiatives (WPI) and Emerge, Built stored inventory in a shed at the 480 Swan St site, and Built volunteer days would see the team deliver and install in the goods into homes.
By investing money, recycling furniture, and volunteering, the initiative has afforded women and children the means necessary to improve their living situations. The collaborative partnership resulted in 320 furniture items being rescued, 30 households helped and over 330 volunteer hours completed.
