Built appointed as Managing Contractor for the New Mount Barker Hospital Development
We are pleased to announce Built has been formally appointed as the construction partner for the New Mount Barker Hospital Development, by our valued repeat clients the Department for Infrastructure and Transport and the Department for Health and Wellbeing.
The new Mount Barker Hospital is set to become a cornerstone of healthcare for the rapidly growing Adelaide Hills community, tripling the capacity of the existing Mount Barker District Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. This expansion reflects the region’s surge in population and the need for advanced, accessible healthcare services close to home.
“Delivering critical health infrastructure is at the core of what we do, and this project will significantly expand healthcare capacity for the region. We are proud to be building a state-of-the art hospital that will support the community’s growing population for years to come. We look forward to strengthening our strong working relationship with Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network (BHFLHN), having worked together on multiple projects at Mt Barker Hospital since 2016.” said Henry Meaney, General Manager SA.
The new facility will increase inpatient capacity from 34 to 102 beds, enhancing specialist care in maternity, paediatrics, short-stay, rehabilitation, medical, mental health, surgical, and palliative care. Additionally, it will introduce new operation theatres, beds for recovery after surgery, and widen the scope of chemotherapy and renal dialysis services. It will also offer new outpatient, community and allied health facilities, consulting suites, a gymnasium for allied health, and services for telehealth and in-reach services to ensure patients receive the support they need from a distance. A brand-new 12-bed mental health unit will also provide critical care, addressing a growing demand for mental health services in the region.
Mount Barker is one of South Australia’s largest cities, set to grow dramatically in coming decades after already experiencing significant population growth over the past 10 years. The South Australian Government’s commitment to a New Mount Barker Hospital is critical to supporting this population growth and ensuring that South Australians living in Mount Barker and the Adelaide Hills have access to high-quality health services, closer to their home.
Built will lead all on site works, drawing on our extensive experience in healthcare projects, including the completion of the new Mount Barker Emergency Department in June 2023 which was recently awarded a 2024 Master Builders SA Award.
“As we work with government to accelerate priority infrastructure projects, this new hospital will play a crucial role in advancing health outcomes for the Adelaide Hills. By expanding specialist services and tripling inpatient capacity, the hospital will empower the local health network to provide higher-complexity care and reduce pressure on metropolitan hospitals,” said Henry.
“This is a vital step in delivering the South Australian Government’s healthcare vision for growing regional communities.”
Site preparation works are expected to begin end of year, with construction forecast to be completed by the end of 2027.
