Sustainability and adaptive reuse in Sydney’s CBD
Sub Station No.164 – developed and constructed by Built and home to our Sydney head office – is the ambitious revitalisation of two historic industrial buildings that sat in disrepair for decades.
This adaptive reuse project is now considered one of Sydney’s most unique and sustainable office developments, a transformation set to guide and provide inspiration to others considering sustainable heritage adaptive reused developments in the future.
Our Sustainability & Social Impact team has produced a video case study to share the innovative design and sustainability solutions utilised on this project, as well as learnings that can be applied to future projects, including:
- Key features that contributed to successful 6 Star Green Star and WELL Platinum ratings
- Challenges and benefits of selecting an adaptive reuse project over a new build
- Strategies to reduce embodied and operational carbon in development
- How Built prioritised occupant health and wellbeing as a critical design driver
With the increasing urgency to decarbonise the built environment, it is now more important than ever to transition towards a circular economy and celebrate reuse.
