Built celebrates the transformation of former substation into Sydney’s newest cultural precinct
Built were honoured to be joined by The Hon. John Graham MLC, NSW Minister for the Arts, Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy, and Minister for Jobs and Tourism alongside representatives from NSW Government, City of Sydney and key industry bodies and think tanks to celebrate Machine Hall as the new home of Vivid Music.
From a once-abandoned substation to Sydney’s newest cultural precinct, Machine Hall’s transformation represents a unique cultural partnership with government and sets a benchmark for how underutilised buildings are reactivated for the future.
“To build a contemporary sculpted seven storey tower floating above an old tobacco warehouse and this old substation – while maintaining the heritage buildings and creating an events space – it’s a remarkable feat of development and construction,” said Minister Graham.
“This will be a great cultural asset for the city and look we want to see more developments like this. We need more of this in Sydney,” added the Minister.
Built is proud to have delivered on the City of Sydney’s vision to create a unique space that contributes much-needed affordable infrastructure to the city centre.
“Spaces like the Machine Hall don’t happen by accident. They require intentional planning, really thoughtful design, and a shared commitment to the ongoing investment in our arts, culture, and creative industries,” said Brett Mason, CEO, Built Group.
