Australian-owned digital-first contractor and property developer, Built, has appointed Matthew Theoharous to the newly created role of Executive General Manager – Defence and Social Infrastructure, reinforcing its readiness to deliver the facilities and infrastructure required to enhance Australia’s sovereign capabilities.

Mr. Theoharous brings over 30 years’ experience across major Defence projects, with a track record of leading some of the largest and most complex projects of scale across Australia. His ability to collaboratively deliver positive project outcomes is best exemplified through his 20 years as a client-side Project Manager.

David Paterson, CEO, Construction, said this appointment strengthens Built’s established National Defence Business Unit and reinforces the organisation’s ongoing commitment to investing in Defence.

“As a fully sovereign, locally owned Australian company, we see great opportunity to accelerate the development of Defence capability through the delivery of major construction projects that help secure Australia,” said Mr. Paterson.

“Matt’s strong leadership and deep sector expertise will build upon our national team and help position Built to become a Defence contractor of choice,” he added.

Mr. Theoharous said he was excited by the calibre of personnel and innovative ways Built is leveraging digital construction to enhance project delivery. Best demonstrated on high secure data centre projects both in Australia and overseas completed on time and within budget, he is keen to leverage this capability to deliver the extensive Defence pipeline ahead of program with greater certainty.

“As Australia faces one of the most complex and challenging strategic environments, our industry requires skilled partners who can execute critical infrastructure needed to support Australia’s sovereign capability with speed and at lower costs,” Mr. Theoharous said.

“Built’s continued investment in new technologies – ones that deliver projects at speed and on budget – demonstrates the immense potential to harness innovation and transfer this expertise to the Defence sector to drive efficiency, precision and long-term capability,” he added.

With strong financials, national coverage and proven tier one performance, Built is well-positioned to support the long-term infrastructure required to protect Australia’s interests.
